Prototype Beta Privacy Policy

Effective September 22, 2026; updated September 26, 2026 for build 7's demo phone and selfie checks. This policy covers the local TestFlight prototype, version 0.1.0, not the future live dating service.

Who we are and what this policy covers

Small Talk Technologies Inc. ("Small Talk," "we," or "us") operates this beta. Contact us about privacy or deletion at team@thesmalltalkapp.com.

This beta lets invited adults test the Small Talk experience. It is a single-device prototype, not a live dating network: discovery profiles and partners are simulated, and testers cannot match, message, or call one another. Your microphone recordings and selected photos are real files, even though the conversations are simulated. Please use non-sensitive test content and only include people who have agreed to participate.

Information used on your device

The prototype saves information in the app's local storage so you can leave and resume testing. Depending on what you enter and use, this includes:

• Your onboarding draft and profile: phone number, first name, birthday, chosen city, your gender, interests, prompts, and dating preferences, including preferred ages and who you want to hear. The phone number stays in the onboarding draft on this phone; it is not shown on your profile.
• Optional profile details and filters, such as gender, pronouns, sexuality, ethnicity, religion, political views, relationship goals, family plans, lifestyle, hometown, languages, work, education, and height. Some of these details, and information in your recordings, may be sensitive. You can skip optional fields.
• Photos you select and copies saved for the prototype, along with recordings of your introduction, prompt answers, and simulated-conversation voice notes. Earlier builds also saved a short demo voice check; build 7 deletes that recording the first time it opens.
• A short video selfie (picture and sound) from your phone's front camera, for the demo selfie check. It is saved only in the app on this phone. It is not uploaded, analysed, compared with your photos, or shown to anyone, including your matches. You can retake or delete it on the selfie step.
• Demo activity, including likes, matches, messages, listening and simulated-call progress, reveal choices, blocks, reports, and app preferences.
• A local testing log of recent actions, timestamps, and related details. The app retains up to 500 product events and also writes events to diagnostic console output. It does not include a custom service that automatically uploads this local event log to us. Logs or screenshots you choose to share may contain personal information.

The demo phone check sends no text message: the six-digit code is made on your phone and shown on screen, and your number is not sent anywhere. These local records support onboarding, recording and playback, simulated discovery and conversations, saved progress, and troubleshooting. This build does not upload your local profile, phone number, selected photos, selfie video, or recordings to a Small Talk account server or share them with other testers. There is no live Small Talk account or cloud matching service in this prototype.

Information involved in distribution, updates, and feedback

The beta is not entirely offline:

• Apple TestFlight: Apple automatically collects and shares crash and usage information with us while you test. Tester information can include your name and invitation email, device identifiers and model, OS/build details, and sessions. Comments and screenshots are also shared if you submit feedback. We use TestFlight information only to improve the app, subject to Apple's restrictions on use and onward sharing. See TestFlight & Privacy.
• Expo updates: The app checks Expo's EAS Update service for app updates. Requests involve an IP address, an Expo-generated installation identifier, platform/runtime and update information, and potentially update-failure diagnostics. These requests do not intentionally include your Small Talk profile, photos, or audio. See Expo's privacy policy.
• Direct contact: If you email us or provide feedback directly, we receive your contact details and whatever you choose to send. We use that information to coordinate testing, answer requests, investigate issues, and improve the prototype. Email is also processed by the email service used to deliver and store the correspondence. Please do not send passwords, identity documents, or other unnecessary sensitive information.
• This policy page: Opening the policy website involves the hosting service processing technical request information, such as your IP address, to deliver the page. We have not added advertising, analytics scripts, forms, or tracking cookies to the page.

Your operating system and services you enable, such as photo synchronization or device backups, may separately process information under their own settings and policies. Local app data may be included in a device backup. Deleting data inside Small Talk does not delete those separate copies.

Permissions and features that are not connected

Microphone access is used when you record. Photo access lets you choose images for your local profile. Camera access is used only when you record the video selfie. You can decline or revoke permissions in your device settings; the associated features will not work without the necessary access. Revoking a permission does not itself delete files already saved in the app.

Simulated calls also use the microphone to animate the voice-level display. This creates a temporary local recording; no call audio is transmitted to another person, and it is not saved as a conversation note. The updated beta discards this temporary recording when metering ends and removes leftover recorder-cache files when the microphone is first initialized in an app session or the demo is reset. Earlier builds, including 0.1.0 (2), can leave temporary audio after an interruption or backgrounding and do not clear that cache through the in-app deletion controls. If you are using an earlier build, update before further testing or delete the app to remove its local app container. Separate backups require their own controls; a storage failure can prevent cleanup and should be reported.

You select a city manually; this beta does not request precise GPS location or your contacts. Apple/Google sign-in, text-message or phone-number verification, face matching or liveness checks, live identity or age verification, biometric identification, live calls, remote moderation, push delivery, and billing are not connected. Demo verification screens are not proof of anyone's age or identity. Reports inside the prototype are local simulations, not messages to a moderation team; email us for an actual beta concern.

The app has no advertising or cross-app advertising-tracking integration. It does not upload recordings to an AI conversation or model-training service. Placeholder speech is generated using the device's speech functionality.

Retention and your controls

Local profile, media, and demo records stay in the app until you remove them, reset the relevant data, or delete the app. The local product-event log replaces its oldest entries when its 500-event limit is reached; it has no automatic age-based expiry.

• Delete the local demo: In Settings, open Privacy & local data → Delete the local demo, then confirm deletion. This resets the app's profile and demo records, including the phone number, removes its saved photo, recording and selfie video files, and clears its local product-event history. If cleanup reports an error, retry to finish it. Continuing to use the app can create new records.
• Clear testing history only: In Settings → Privacy & local data, select Local testing history and confirm. This leaves your profile and media in place.
• Start over: The Profile screen's Start over button resets the demo and removes its saved profile, phone number, recordings, photos, and selfie video, but does not clear the separate local product-event history in this build. Use the controls above if you also want that history removed.
• Pause or hide: Pausing discovery or hiding a profile field does not delete the underlying information.
• Leave the beta: You can stop testing in TestFlight and delete the app. Merely offloading the app, stopping TestFlight participation, or letting a build expire is not the same as deleting app data.

Deleting the app's photo copies does not remove the originals from your photo library. These controls do not erase feedback already sent to us, operating-system diagnostic logs, or backups and records held by Apple, Expo, or your other service providers.

We retain feedback and correspondence we receive only as long as reasonably necessary to run this beta, investigate issues, respond to requests, and meet applicable legal obligations. Provider-held records follow the relevant provider's retention practices. You can ask us to access, correct, or delete information we hold by emailing team@thesmalltalkapp.com. Rights and exceptions depend on applicable law. We may need to verify a request using information reasonably necessary for that purpose; please do not send identity documents unless a secure process has been agreed. We cannot remotely access or erase records held only on your phone, but can help you use the local controls.

Security, adults-only testing, and changes

This is an early prototype. It relies on the app's local storage and device protections; the photo reveal lock is a product interaction, not a separate encrypted vault. No storage or transmission can be guaranteed completely secure. Use a protected device and avoid sensitive content in recordings, photos, screenshots, and feedback.

Small Talk is intended for adults aged 18 and over. Do not participate if you are under 18. If you believe a minor has provided information to us, contact us so we can investigate and address information we hold.

We will update this policy when the beta's practices change. Before introducing materially different collection or sharing, such as live accounts or cloud-hosted profiles and audio, we will provide an updated notice and obtain any consent required by applicable law. This policy does not authorize those future features or grant permission to use your voice or likeness in marketing.
